On Tour: Peter Knight’s Gigspanner - Big Band with Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin

Periodically, a pairing of two acts with their own unique identities produces an electrifying musical force that is even greater than the impressive sum of its parts.

As a trio, Gigspanner, formed by (ex-Steeleye Span) fiddle player Peter Knight, has built a massive reputation for dismantling traditional music and song and have been hailed as being among the “most quietly brilliant sets of musicians in the folk world and beyond”

BBC Folk Award winners (Best Duo) Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin are described The Guardian as being “Subtle, bravely original…a combination of virtuosity, intensity and charisma”

Their appearances together as the Gigspanner Big Band are of necessity a rare, but highly sought after affair, thanks to performances of dazzling musicianship and an arresting on-stage chemistry.

Hannah and Phil were originally invited by Gigspanner to guest with them for two special shows on 2015 Layers of Ages album launch tour, but a more permanent collaboration became inevitable when the line-up was immediately offered a headline slot at a major festival.

Following on from their April dates, they will be appearing at several major festivals during the coming summer, including Sidmouth, Shrewsbury, Broadstairs and FolkEast.
