Last year we featured the album The Other Side by Adaya, a band fronted by Swiss-based singer, songwriter and musician Adaya Lancha Bairacli. The album has been described as prophetic, rooted deep in folk traditions from the British Isles and steeped in colours of contemporary psychedelic folk. In his review, Thomas Blake concluded that it was an “intensely varied and often mesmerising release from a unique voice.”
One of many highlights on the album was the track Werewolf, one on which the album’s darkness and mystery reach its zenith, beginning with a sparseness before building to ‘a full-band meditation on power and femininity’. Adaya recently recorded a music video for the track in Morocco which was filmed by Mehdi Souissi which you can watch below. It’s also our Song of the Day.
Adaya features Adaya Lancha Bairacli (Vocals, Guitar, Banjo’s, Piano), Aaron Goldsmith (Guitarron, Sitar bass, Upright bass), Buck Curran (Electric Guitar), Corinne Windler (Drums) and occasionally Moniek de Leeuw on Violin.
