Ask Me Anything is the second track, and the second single, from the eponymous Bennett Wilson Poole album (reviewed here), and one that arrives on the scene a week before the album.
There are perhaps more radio-friendly tracks on the record, but this one demonstrates the key elements that make this project so special: BWP swapping verses, a glorious harmony-driven chorus, and an epic guitar solo, this time allied to a mysterious lyrical menace and a heavier musical tone.
The song, co-written by Danny and Robin over FaceTime and a few glasses of wine, lent itself to a very different video treatment after the railway antics of “Soon Enough” and the light comedy of “The Wilson General Store”. This time, director Martyn Chalk took inspiration from 60s and 70s spy movies, with Oxford’s social enterprise micro-brewery The Tap Social Movement (scene of BWP’s first ever gig, in fact) doubling as a vaguely Kafkaesque den of subterfuge.
