We recently premiered the music video for The Little Unsaid’s ‘Day is Golden’, a deeply personal song that simply (and positively) expresses songwriter John Elliott’s journey through suffering – and eventual healing – with mental illness. Following the positive response to the video, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to share this live session at Highgate Cemetery (film by Phoenix).
The response should have been no surprise considering what John had to say about the song and his experience of performing it live:
‘The resonance the song has with other people has magnified the meaning of it so much beyond my own personal reasons for writing it. After gigs, I’ve had so many beautiful open conversations with strangers about their personal struggles, things you wouldn’t normally imagine sharing on a night out. The song somehow seemed to open up this oddly uplifting dialogue around grief and trauma and things that can be so difficult for most of us to talk about.’
Songs like this get you thinking about how we support each other in times of grief, sadness, loss and depression and it brought to mind something Henry Miller once said: “The one thing we can never get enough of is love. And the one thing we never give enough of is love.”
The song is also the title of their forthcoming tour, dates below. Selected Works, a 15 track career to date primer is set to released May 18, 2018, via Reveal Records.
