This year’s Costa Del Folk takes place in sunny Ibiza with a 20-strong line-up that includes headliners Oysterband, Show of Hands, Skerryvore and Sharon Shannon. Anyone who has been to Costa Del Folk will know that amongst the headliners they like to include emerging newcomers and a few surprises and this year they’ve added some great names.
Programme Director, Geoff Sargieson has revealed that the following are also performing from the UK folk scene – Dan Walsh and Alastair Anderson (who demonstrated a mutualistic musical symbiosis on their recent live album), The Claire Hastings Band, Lucy Ward, Flossie Malavialle, Amelia Coburn, Molly Evans and Jack Rutter, Jessica Lawson and Phil Simpson.
Looking beyond our shores, two other FRUK favourites will be performing: Estonia’s No.1 band, Trad.Attack! (check their new video below) and Madrid-based acoustic-folk band Track Dogs whose members hail from Ireland, the US and UK. Their Serenity Sessions album made a big impression on FRUK’s Neil McFadyen who declared “it’s the music as a whole that shines brightest of all”.
Also performing: from Ireland Colum Sands, and from Germany, UK expatriates, Broom Bezzums.
Geoff also shared with us that “Further surprises include A Fistful of Spookies, the half-dozen Englishmen left behind when the Spooky Men’s Chorale went back to Australia, theatrical folk musicians, 3 Daft Monkeys, and the musician who plays two guitars at once, Rodney Branigan.
“There’ll also be opportunities for festival-goers to get involved – by joining the Costa Choir, giving us a song at Flossie’s Open Mic, or attending the daily ukulele classes.”
