This year’s Purbeck Valley Folk Festival (16-19th August 2018) is looking to be one of their best lineups yet. It already features some of the best names out there and they have just announced that Beth Orton is to headline the Sunday night. She released her 7th album Kidsticks in 2016 surprising many as she chose synthesizers over guitar and called on the help a group of guest musicians including Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr and Dustin O’Halloran from Winged Victory for the Sullen.
Catherine Burke, organiser of the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival says: “We’ve been following Beth’s career for many years and are over the moon that she will be finally joining us at our festival this year. We can’t wait and we’re sure she’ll get a warm welcome from everyone.”
This year’s lineup also features Richard Thompson Electric Trio who we interviewed here, Fife-based King Creosote whose beautiful, plaintive and world-weary vocals are always a winner in our books, his last album Astronaut Meets Appleman went down a treat.
For those looking to burn off calories over the weekend or at least keep your calorie intake down with all that lovely local food, beer and cider then we strongly recommend that you throw aside the deck chairs and take over the dance floor with Trad.Attack!, Sam Kelly and The Lost Boys, Urban Folk Quartet, Midnight Skyracer, Elephant Sessions and Gadarene to name just a few.
Also performing are many other FRUK favourites including Siobhan Miller, O’Hooley & Tidow, Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra, Ninebarrow, Jenn & Laura Beth, Teyr, Naomi Bedford and Paul Simmonds, Thom Ashworth and more.
As if this all wasn’t enough, there are further acts are to be unveiled over the coming months. Other attractions for the family festival include kids entertainers, storytellers, craft workshops, music workshops, theatre workshops, song sessions, poetry, Purbeck Rising (for new talent) and open mics.
Tier 1 tickets have now sold-out, but weekend tickets are available from £106 (youth £66, children age 4–11 £36).
