Whatever Devil Is In Me is the first single (out today) taken from Fix Your Words the new album from American songwriting legend Chip Taylor. It’s also our Song of the Day.
2016 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Taylor has been writing and performing for nearly 60 years and shows no sign of slowing down. The New York Times says it best, “If you only know him as the as the guy who wrote ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Angel of the Morning” — you don’t know him! Chip Taylor is making some of the most distinctive acoustic music around today.” With the release of Fix Your Words, Taylor continues to come up with timeless, thought-provoking music.
Fix Your Words, released on Train Wreck on March 2nd, features two distinct sides. The amazing title track leads side A through a quiet reflective batch of prayerful thoughts. Side B, subtitled When I Was A Kid, is an inspired meditation on the power of memory and sadness, and features some of the most emotional and affecting songs of Taylor’s lifetime of songwriting.
As with The Little Prayers Trilogy (Mojo called it ”a masterpiece, while Uncut said it was the “Crowning glory of a storied career” and placed it on its Best of 2015 list), the new album was co-produced by keyboardist Goran Grini. It also features master guitarist John Platania (Van Morrison) as well as Tony Leone and Tony Mercadante.
Taylor will be touring Europe and North America in the winter playing his 1973 country/rock classic Last Chance (out soon in a deluxe reissue package) in its entirety, along with selections from his remarkable career of songwriting and performance.
