Orphan Colours share an exclusive stream of new video ‘Goodnight California‘, in the same week they will be celebrating the release of debut album, ‘All On Red‘.
When UK alt.country outfit ahab went on indefinite hiatus, song-writer Steven Llewellyn decided to form his own band with the help of ahab originator Dave Burn and former bassist Graham Knight. Orphan Colours was born! Being firmly a part of the London Americana scene made it easy to get involved in collaborations with members of bands like Danny & The Champions of The World, who’s drummer Steve Brookes, already having toured heavily with ahab, quickly became a permanent member of Orphan Colours, along with Fred Abbott, formerly lead guitarist with Noah & the Whale.
The latest single from ‘All On Red’ is ‘Goodnight California’, a song in which the anthemic feel hides a darker underbelly. Singer/Songwriter, Steve Llewellyn explains, “the background of the song is a little darker then perhaps the sound of the track lets on – it’s about the transition in life from our childhood to adulthood, when the things you took for granted, family, dreams, aspirations etc don’t turn out the way you had always hoped and that moment when you realise it. I used ‘Goodnight California’ as a metaphor for my own childhood because I was so obsessed with what was going on there when I was growing up, musically I mean.
‘All On Red’ is out on the 26th Jan via At The Helm Records.
