Fran Wyburn, a rising new folk talent from Yorkshire, is releasing her much anticipated single ‘Foolish Sea‘ on the 1st December right before playing on the Introducing stage at this year’s Great British Folk Festival on the 3rd December. This is the first track to be released from her eagerly awaited debut album ‘Wood for The Trees’ which is due for release early next year produced by York-based folk specialist Dan Webster.
Foolish Sea is the blend of all things associated with Fran’s unique and captivating style. Her pure-toned voice and entrancing, soaring melodies lure you in from the very beginning into a quirky tale of unrequited love. George Birkett’s sublime guitar playing and fingerpicking precision, underpins the song holding its own poetic voice alongside Fran’s spellbinding lyrics. The track has been layered with percussion, cello (Rachel Brown) and harmonies that all add to a very jaunty yet pensive and heartfelt exploration of the nature of love.
Fran wrote the song whilst walking along a beach in West Wales on a brilliant bright day in Autumn whilst contemplating a broken heart and comparing her love to the natural flows of nature. She then sat in the car park working out the guitar part not really caring that everyone who was going to their cars looked at her really strangely. The track was then arranged by George and Fran in her bedroom and was an instant hit with audiences.
The music video was created by artist and filmmaker Ray Kane on an early Autumnal day, with Fran’s home acting as the backdrop. It reflects the love and carefree passion of the song, as well as capturing Fran’s colourful and playful personality.
Fran will be playing this song as well as others off her new album ‘Wood For The Trees’ due for release in Spring next year on the Introducing Stage at the Great British Folk Festival on Sunday 3rd December.
