A hunt on youtube for PicaPica is more likely to turn up a Spanish band that do children’s songs (trust me, just don’t press play) than the dual talents of Josienne Clarke and Samantha Whates who have taken their name from the Latin name for the common Magpie…”picking shiny moments of tone and timbre from 60s west coast, sunshine pop and indie folk.”
If you love those delicate moments by the likes My Brightest Diamond (Shara Worden) then you’re in for a treat.
Their new EP Spring and Shade is a short but beautiful offering from two very talented singers who have no shortage of experience in creating dreamy harmonies as they so ably demonstrate on Small Time/Secret below. The accompaniment of Adam Beattie & Sonny Johns is perfectly matched as they create delicate shades of movement that just heighten it all to another level.
This new EP offers 15 minutes of escape but if you want longer than just press play again. You won’t tire of listening to them.
Out on 8 December (MP3/CD). Limited edition 10″ (500 worldwide) released in early 2018.
Don’t miss then at London’s Green Note on Thu 14th Dec (Tickets)
