It’s been a while since I’ve written about singer, cellist, songwriter, and composer Wes Swing whose 2011 album Through a Fogged Glass became a firm FRUK favourite. His latest album And the Heart was released earlier this year, produced by Paul Curreri.
When he sent us the music video for “Mirrors” (our Song of the Day) it was like Christmas had come early. Directed by Pando Creative Co and filmed at an historic island lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay, it features Diane Cluck playing the role of Ida, inspired by the historical lighthouse keeper Ida Lewis. Alongside her Devon Sproule as well as Marshall Swing, Jeff Gregerson, Ellie Ilardi, and Christina Tiffany. The song is about darkness, light, and dreams.
Diane Cluck shared the following with us about the making of the video:
“Working on Wes’ video for “Mirrors” was a great experience for me. We had very little time in which to do the shooting but all production details were gracefully planned for by Wes and the Pando Creative team. I enjoyed this chance to make art with local artists and friends, and to revisit my roots in theater. Kinda gave me the bug again. Favorite memory is the trip to and from the lighthouse–pulling together to move people and equipment and figuring out how we’d get off the island. Jeez, it was cold that day. Also, it was the first time I’d seen a drone (used in shooting). They’re creepy.”
