Last month, East London five-piece band Stick In The Wheel announced their second studio album Follow Them True which will be released 26 January 2018. Today, they followed-up with a new video for the album’s hypnotic and immersive title-track ‘Follow Them True’.
The film and animation were made by artist Teresa Elizabeth Lobos whose work explores the “liminal spaces between the darkness of the waking world and the mystery of the unconscious.” It’s a well matched audio-visual collaboration as Stick in the Wheel ‘examine rituals and cycles, our inherent power to change ourselves and the world around us, the past repeating itself, ghosts and death, land and place, thieves and beggars.’
The initial announcement hinted at an expansion of their sound to include electronic and found sounds, using a broader sonic palette to create a greater depth full of layers and meaning, yet at the same time remaining totally connected with the tradition. There is plenty evidence of this here:
Speaking of the track the band say simply:
“Follow Them True:
Do what they did, our elders.
Keep them close, our enemies.
Be true.”
You can pre-order Follow Them True via their Pledge page which includes signed vinyl/CD along with limited special items.
