From now and into the early New Year there are some great Folk and Americana acts lined up at London’s Kings Place, many of which have featured on Folk Radio UK. See details below:

Melrose Quartet: ‘Dominion’ Album Launch
Thursday, 30 November 2017
Featured only just this week, the Melrose Quartet will launch their new album Dominion on Thursday, 30 November. They are Nancy Kerr (voice, fiddle), James Fagan (voice, bouzouki, guitar), Jess Arrowsmith (voice, fiddle) and Richard Arrowsmith (voice, melodeons). They embody the kind of collaborative spirit and socially aware stance that makes folk music such an interesting, challenging and continually relevant form. As demonstrated on Dominion, they have prospered by seizing the day, by daring to do things that are slightly different…who are able to make old songs sound new, and new ones sound timeless. Molsky’s Mountain Drifters
Friday, 1 December 2017
“Despite being a highly accomplished solo performer…Bruce Molsky always sounds even better when complemented by other great musicians, and this band is a worthy match for him. Let’s hope Molsky’s Mountain Drifters make a little trip over the Pond soon!” So said Maria Wallace back in September last year when reviewing their self-titled album and her prayers have been answered. On 1st December, Bruce Molsky will be performing in his new trio with Allison de Groot and Stash Wyslouch. Read our album review here.
The Albion Christmas Band
Friday, 22 December 2017
No Christmas should be without them, The Albion Christmas Band will be stopping by Kings Place on 22nd December. They are Simon Nicol (Fairport Convention), Kellie While (Albion Band), Simon Care (Edward II) and the Guvnor himself, Ashley Hutchings. They will take you on a guided tour through the Christmas customs of Britain.
Julie Fowlis
Wednesday, 17 January 2018
As Julie Fowlis continues to develop her broad repertoire of Gaelic song, her latest album ‘alterum’ succeeds in exploring connections with other languages, cultures and art forms that enrich her music even further. Above all, though, alterum is, quite simply, an album of the most beautiful music. Read our album review here.
Lúnasa
Sunday, 28 January 2018
Lúnasa are one of the most influential Irish traditional music groups and they are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year – read their 2014 tour blog here on Folk Radio UK if you want to know what life on the road for them is like. Named after an ancient Celtic harvest festival in honour of the Irish god Lugh, Lúnasa are composed of Kevin Crawford (flutes, low whistles and tin whistles), Trevor Hutchinson (double bass), Ed Boyd (guitar), Seán Smyth (fiddle and low whistle) and Cillian Vallely (uilleann pipes and low whistles). It’s sure to be an evening of unsurpassable jigs, reels and marches, played with every ounce of the enthusiasm, flair and skill for which they’re so rightly renowned.
