Eliza Carthy and The Wayward Band will be on tour this November and December across the country (dates below) for which we are offering a pair of tickets for each show.
What better way to celebrate than with a new video of a live performance of I Wish That The Wars Were All Over at Real World Studios alongside Irish superstar Damien Dempsey. The song features on their latest album Big Machine.
Such a song title wouldn’t be out of place in this day and age but it’s a traditional ballad (Round 2036) and the sentiment is as strong now as it was when it was published in 1837 – some sources suggest the song dates back to the 1700s.
Ten thousand of bluebells now welcome the spring
Oh when will the church bells of this victory ring
When do our soldiers return, when do we rejoice
And when do I wed to the love of my choice
How I wish that the wars were all over
I wish that the wars were all done.
