It’s been two years since the release of Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou‘s last album, the Ethan Johns-produced ‘Expatriot’. After a short sabbatical taken following the birth of their son, the duo are now back on the scene with a new video to accompany the release of a limited edition 7’’ vinyl, ‘We should’ve Gone Dancing / When Spring Calls’, a run of shows with Jools Holland and a handful of headline shows and in-stores.
‘It’s been a long two years away. A good two years. The most emotional, exciting, boring, high, low. Full of life. Good for the writing. ’We should’ve Gone Dancing’ is a semi-biographical, cautionary tale of how life can take a turn when you least expect it and the nagging sense of longing to go back and do things differently. We recorded this on our 4-track cassette machine, the same one we did our third album ‘La Ferme De Fontenaille’ on. The video was shot on my Dad’s old VHS camera at dawn on a concrete jetty on the beach in Hastings where we live. We’ve been here for five years now, it’s a great place to be and to have little ones, early morning walks on the beach, ice-cream on the pier. It’s a crazy little town, full of life’s smugglers and pirates, artists and nomads who have reached the end and found a community of bohemians. Our friend and fellow Hastinger, opera-singer and Rambert Ballet-trained dancer, Chiara Vinci, braved the freezing waves to deliver a beautiful improvised performance, first take. Only the feet of a toughened ballerina could’ve withstood the jagged concrete with such grace.’ – Trevor Moss
Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou, who have opened for many big name artists including; Tori Amos, Ron Sexsmith, Louden Wainwright, Damon Albarn and Beth Orton are looking forward to getting back out on the road again,
‘Two years ago we did four shows with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. I was heavily pregnant and those were the last shows we did before Jesse (our son) turned up on boxing day a few weeks later, so there’s a nice cyclical element. I was really big last time, I couldn’t bend down to plug my guitar in. Trevor and I sing into one mic, which is challenging at the best of times, so this time I’m looking forward to it being a little easier, and being able to take a bow!’ – Hannah-Lou
