Listen to Good Man by Indie Appalachian duo Tina & Her Pony who are Tina Collins (tenor ukulele, guitar, vocals) and Quetzal Jordan (cello, guitar, vocals). The track is taken from their new album Champion (out November 3rd) and is largely inspired by dreams, loving partnership and death, the album is made in memory of Tina’s father Bradford Collins.
Quetzal Jordan shared the following with us on Good Man:
“I wrote this song for my Dad, who passed in 2012 of spinal cancer. He should’ve died another way. I had to re-write his death, because he was a salty commercial fisherman in BC, Canada. He was a diver, who used to punch sharks in the face. I love that in this new version, he gets to die at sea, where he spent most of his life, and not in a hospital room. It started out with the title, “Dead Family Song”, but it was a little too macabre sounding for such a bouncy lil’ ditty.”
They spent two years holed up in the high desert mountain town of Taos, New Mexico making music and friends, and becoming one of the iconic artist colony’s most beloved performing acts. After an 18-month album release tour spanning the United States and Canada, they established a new home base in Asheville, NC and began recording their forthcoming album, “Champion”. The album will be released November 3rd, Recorded at Echo Mountain, Asheville, NC in 2017, the album includes guest artists from Rising Appalachia, Cicada Rhythm, and Holy Ghost Tent Revival.
