Nadia High, a Canadian born singer-songwriter, based out of Toronto, recently sent us a link to ‘Armchair Revolution’, her her first original song and video to be released. Her style of music reminded me a lot of Richie Havens circa 1970 – Live at the Cellar Door which also happens to be one of my favourite albums. She has that same relaxed style of singing with some lovely vintage earthy folk-soul melodies. But don’t let that relaxed air fool you, she’s not afraid to face challenging topics in her songwriting be it race, social injustice or to love in the face of adversity.
Having returned to music after the birth of her daughter she has a conviction that shines through in live performances I’ve watched and connects well with her audience. As she says in her bio “She trusts her own unique voice and brings something that is fresh and powerfully original to the world of music.” We couldn’t agree more.
