Sheffield based trio Before Breakfast are made up of Gina, Debra and Lucy. Together they have a wealth of musical experience in the fields of classical music, pop, indie, musical theatre and folk. They’ve worked with or been part of other live bands including Reverend And The Makers and Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings. Despite being good friends for years the trio only began collaborating in November 2016 and hope to release their debut album in early 2018.
Sometimes poetic, often beautiful and always honest, they weave strong melodies and ethereal cello with sweet harmonies in songs that rise up from the depths of womanhood. The band take inspiration from artists such as Björk, Kate Bush, Marika Hackman, Douglas Dare and Burt Bacharach.
They recently released a powerful new single ‘Fat Child‘, the song explores the exhausting struggle countless people face with body image and battered self-esteem due to diet culture. A call to action of ‘Don’t listen to a single, sad, pathetic word’ is present throughout. That message reverberates all the stronger in their stunning new video for the single which you can watch below.
Talking about the video on Facebook, Gina said “…the women in this music video have all felt the pressures of diet culture, have all been affected by society’s obsession with thinness and at some point have been at war with their bodies.
“This video is a celebration of the mental & physical strength needed to pole. It highlights the female form in beautiful and contorted positions. It shows that having body fat, stretch marks and cellulite are all normal things.”
