The 47th Lorient Interceltic Festival ended on 13th August after 10 days and 10 nights of celebration. Its size shades many other festivals with its 750,000 festival goers with 70,000 alone attending the Grand Parade of the Celtic Nations.
This year was the year of Scotland which saw 200 acts taking part. Next year will be the year of Wales. One Welsh band that was there this year was Cardiff-based band NoGood Boyo (surely a Dylan Thomas ‘Under Milk Wood’ reference: Nogood Boyo fishes in the bay, dreaming of Mrs. Dai Bread Two and geishas). They managed, while there, to record a session ‘down at the reservoir’. The acoustics lend great atmosphere to the traditional Welsh love song Ym Mhontypridd Mae ‘Nghariad. A declaration of love for a Pontipridd girl and an intent to win her heart.

Looking at their Facebook page (link below), they look like they had a great time with band memeber Beth getting in plenty of clog dancing with her own band and with Alaw (Oliver Wilson-Dickson, Dylan Fowler and Jamie Smith). Looked like a non-stop party. Keep an eye on them, I’m certain there will be a lot more great things to come.
