Siv Jakobsen has unveiled a striking new video for her current single, ‘Shallow Digger’, also our Song of the Day. The track is the latest to be taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘The Nordic Mellow’ which is out on 25th August.
Directed by Siv’s long-term visual collaborator, Jørgen Nordby, Siv’s unwavering onscreen stare in the ‘Shallow Digger’ video heightens the impact of the cutting lyrics she delivers in the song.
Earlier this year, stand alone single ‘Like I Used To’ – which features guest vocals from Andrew Davie of Bear’s Den – offered a taster of the striking intimacy to be found on ‘The Nordic Mellow’. ‘Shallow Digger’ showcases the other end of Siv’s sonic spectrum, brooding and raw, it is intense in its delivery.
Produced by Matt Ingram (Laura Marling), “a magical fit” according to Siv, and mixed by Dan Cox (Thurston Moore, Lianne La Havas) at Urchin Studios in London, ‘Nordic Mellow’ offers a sonic warmth, disparate to the sub-zero climate of Siv’s Oslo home.
Jakobsen, who was raised in Asker, just outside of Oslo and went on to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, has long felt at home within British borders and will return to UK shores for a unique tour in October with fellow singer-songwriters Fenne Lily, Paul Thomas Saunders, and Sivu. The the 7-date tour will culminate in a show at London’s renowned Cecil Sharp House. Full listings below, and tickets for all dates are on sale now.
