Evergreen is the latest offering from Portland, Maine indie-folk duo Builder of the House. The song is taken from their first full-length album, Ornaments which is set for release on July 14th, 2017. What began as the solo project of Rob Cimitile in 2011 has blossomed over time with the addition of Elliot Heeschen which has naturally allowed them to broaden their sonic palette.
This can be clearly heard on Evergreen which opens with a beautiful deep warm percussive and guitar resonance, a striking contrast to Rob Cimitile’s baritone vocals. The song lyrics take inspiration from that of the Evergreen Oak…in ancient Greece the leaves of the holm oak were used to tell the future. Here he asks that it be a symbol of everlasting love. The chorus of vocals is just another element that demonstrated Cimitile and Heeschen’s uncanny knack at pulling together elements that heighten the song still further, just when you think it’s already reached a pinnacle. This song stayed with me long after the end and I’m personally looking forward to hearing more from.
