Barefoot Dance of the Sea – We Used to Watch the Moon
30 June 2017 – Bubblewrap Collective
Cardiff-based folk trio Barefoot Dance of the Sea are Rebecca Wood and Beth Whelan (formerly of The Hot Puppies) and Sophie Reardon Smith. There rich harmony-laden folk has been compared to the likes The Unthanks, Les Shelleys and The Staves. They released their debut album ‘Beneath Closed Eyes’ in 2012 so their new EP, We Used to Watch the Moon, will be well received by fans of the trio and will no doubt attract newcomers who have yet to fall under their spell. In case you needed any convincing, watch their live session above in which they perform Flickers of a Flame from their new EP.
The EP features five new tracks, alongside covers of classics “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay”. The three voices are accompanied by minimalist acoustic and percussive backing throughout, their label, Bubblewrap Collective, describe their songs as conjuring age-old flames in distant, wintry seasons.
