The Lion’s Tail is a solo project from multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer Luc Deutschmann. Spending his first years in England, the son of a Seychellois mum and a dad with Swedish and German roots, making the move to the northern parts of Sweden at an early age, the cultural influences as a musician has only been surpassed by his wide talent as an instrumentalist.
As an adult, he lived in Stockholm for five years, studying and working as a session musician in a variety of genres. During his years in the big city, though always surrounded by people, he had never felt so alone. This feeling was the spark of inspiration to find his own musical voice. He later made the decision to leave the stressful life of the big city behind and go back to the North. He found his peace in Alsen. A small village seated in the region of Sweden’s mighty mountain range, with a population of just over a hundred people. Whilst the songs were written in the city, they were recorded in the rural areas of Jämtland, in his own D.I.Y. studio in an old goat house. Beyond writing the music, arranging, producing and recording, he also laid down most of the instruments himself. The result is an epic Americana folk record with a strong scent of the Scandinavian Highlands.
Moving back to the countryside he could finally see the stars again at night and that became a great influence when he was looking to name the project.
I was very into stars at the time and started going through the stars in my zodiac, Leo. I found Denebola which is the second brightest star in the constellation. The name is short for the Arabic phrase ‘Dheneb Alased’ and means The Lion’s tail. In a sense, it’s fitting. Often in our society and especially in the music industry, you have to be “the king of the jungle” to achieve greatness, which is largely expected from Leo’s. That’s not me, maybe I’m just the tail, I thought.

The song is about loneliness. I myself look at it differently depending on my current mode. Sometimes it’s about feeling down and lost. Sometimes it’s about unrequited love. Sometimes it’s just about feeling bad in general or wanting a friend to come and be with you in your solitude. I guess it’s about all those things, but to me, it’s mostly a song about hope in a lonely situation.
The music video for Walking Where No Man Will Ever Tread was in large parts scripted by Luc himself and everything is filmed close to his home in Alsen. There are many extra seasons in this part of the land.
There are many extra seasons in this part of the land. There are a beautiful couple of weeks in between the late winter and the early spring when there’s only snow on the mountains, the lake has a shivering layer of super thin light blue ice, and nothing has started to grow yet. There’s only the heavy green from the conifers and the rest is bathing in some kind of golden beige. I wanted to try and capture that while also setting up a visual backdrop to the song that kind of referenced to the lyrics, without telling the whole story.
