Betty Kendrick is a singer-songwriter from the North West of England with a hauntingly memorable sound. Combining dark folk with elements of blues and soul, Kendrick’s characteristic cadence and deep voice complement a guitar style that flips from defiant chords to intricate fingerpicking and back again. Watch her latest video for We Are Good (also our Song of the Day) which features on her new EP Imposter. She shared the following about its making. She told us that she’d developed the concept for the video (a story of love and loss in a relationship between a man and his mannequin) along with the director Bobby Pook (Sumo Crucial Productions – other clients include Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Plastic, Blanket).
Influenced by the likes of Ray Lamontagne, Keaton Henson and Charles Bradley, Kendrick nails an incomparable sound all her own that makes people universally stop and listen. Preferring the trials and tribulations of writing to constant touring, a Betty Kendrick gig is a rare treat, exposing a raw emotional talent you’ll seldom find elsewhere.
Kendrick’s six-track EP Imposter is available on Spotify, Apple Music and all good streaming outlets.
