Gallery 47 shared the following about the song:
This song was written and recorded in 2013, a day or so after I had paid £300 to fly home early from a family/friends holiday in Portugal. Everyone I was around was debauched and drinking from 11am, which meant that by about 5pm every day, the politics started coming out for some of the group. This was pre-Brexit, before the referendum, when Farage was seen more as a malignant nuisance than a real threat, and really it was just a case of different people coming together in a really bad way. I’m now 27, and am generally much calmer these days, but at the time I remember feeling so conflicted and angered at some of the things that were said. Some people get mad or punch a wall or start a fight, I wrote three albums in a couple of weeks and spent the next 4 years trying to fill in the gaps and render everything.
This is one of my most personal and honest songs, it forms a central part of the story in the album ‘Young World’, which has already been recorded, but is not coming out perhaps for another year. In the years between 2012-2015, I wrote many songs and recorded them at a nice flat with high ceilings in Nottingham. It features 12 vocals being sung at once, half of which are singing the first set of lines (‘I get up, I get out, I get back, We fall out, You think I’m impolite, I think you’re on the right’). I used a nice sampled jazz kit bass drum and added quite a warm reverb to it, which makes it feel a bit cosmic and airy I think.
With Bad Production, Jack tells an intriguing story of discrimination, sibling rivalry, school politics and drug abuse entwined with intelligent lyricism and beautiful arrangements.
Bad Production by Gallery 47 is due for release on 5th May 2017 via Bad Production Records.
