Listen to Bound to Ride, the new single from Atlanta Bluesman Moses Nesh which features on his new album No Labor-Saving Machine coming this Friday, April 21 on vinyl on Keeled Scales. Musically speaking, Nesh has more than a raw simplicity to his music, he conjures the past with his own personal twist. An attraction that was clearly not lost on our friends at Dying for Bad Music who have served as a label home for the likes C Strøm and released Moses Nesh’s first album The Lovely Ohio on cassette.
Nesh’s vocals blur in and out of focus through his quirky slurred delivery. The effect is strangely mesmerising and equally warm, like a distant relation to those pre-war blues and old-time singers, an influence that can be clearly heard throughout No Labor-Saving Machine. It states at the end of Nesh’s short bio on his website “He does not feel at home in this world,” that feeling of detachment can be heard in his music and in this fast-paced world, a listen to this album will slow down time.
As DFBM stated “He’s only in his 20’s, but his passion for and knowledge of old blues pressed on 78’s, plus his outstanding guitar skills combine for something far beyond expectations.” We couldn’t agree more.
