Watch the Well Enough Alone, the latest video/single from Australia’s The Mae Trio. The single is taken from their much-awaited sophomore album Take Care Take Cover, out May 26th, 2017. If The Mae Trio are a new name to some of you then that may be all set to change as they prepare to bring their unique contemporary twist on folk music to Europe this summer (tour dates soon to be announced). Those of our readers in Canada and the US, check out their upcoming dates below.
The video for Well Enough Alone was, directed by Eden Mulholland and filmed on location in The Mae Trio’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia. Speaking on the sentiments behind the song Maggie explains “I wrote this song after a few comments from men in the music scene when the band was new that left me feeling small and valueless. This is song is about deciding not to take those judgements on board, not to lie down and take crap from anyone, no matter who they are”
The Mae Trio’s debut album, Housewarming earned them Folk Alliance Australia Youth Award and NFSA Folk Recording of the Year and saw them tour Australia, Canada, USA and Europe with performances at the Hydro Stadium at Celtic Connection, Glasgow, Americana Folk Festival, Nashville, Cambridge Folk Festival, UK Edmonton Folk Festival, Canada, and Port Fairy and National Folk Festivals, Australia.
The trio decamped to Nashville Tennessee to record with producer and engineer Erick Jaskowiak (Crooked Still, Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, The Waifs). The album features guest performances by The Stray Bird’s Maya De’Vitry; Darrell Scott, The Time Jumper’s Jeff Taylor; Victor Krauss; Jano Rix; and Kai Welch. Speaking of the recording experience Maggie says“The day after we arrived we got snowed in for four days in the third highest snowfall in Nashville on record. As three Australians who have never been snowed in anywhere this was a huge thrill! The slightly isolated location of the studio also gave us the space and peace to record something that was sincerely and completely ourselves.
Take Care Take Cover is released 26th May 2017 and the trio are set to tour North America and Europe (to be announced) this summer.
