In 2010, Tim Eriksen received a Grammy nomination for his album Across the Divide which he recorded together with the 7-time Grammy-nominated Cuban pianist Omar Sosa. Omar Sosa has just released Transparent Water (World Village / Harmonia Mudi), a new studio collaboration with Nottingham-based kora master and singer Seckou Keita (Senegal).
Last year saw Tim Eriksen reunited for the first time with Omar Sosa since Across the Divide, accompanied by Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles. The combination of his music, strongly influenced by the folk music of Southern Appalachia and New England, with Sosa’s jazz, Latin and African influences may sound like a strange concoction, but as the live footage from Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival shows, it was an engaging and unique performance, especially when all three are performing together.
The festival is one of the biggest events of its kind in Poland, as well as in Central and Eastern Europe. 192 individual artists and groups from 61 countries have presented their art within the Festival so far.
