The tension has been building with the promise of this new video from The Staves for Tired as F**k, a fan favourite that has featured in their live set over the past year. The track features on the new double A Side ‘Tired As F**k’ / ‘Train Tracks’. The latter is a re-mastered version of a bonus track featured on their critically acclaimed 2015 album If I Was. The sisters said of the tracks, “Tired As F**k was a song written in the midst of a relationship breaking down; lamenting the lack of some sort of guidance, but also accepting and resigning yourself to fact that you have to soldier on. Keep going. There is no helping hand. ‘Train Tracks’ is the beginning of something new and how confusing and difficult that can be when you’re really just as clueless as anyone! The two tracks bookend each other in that respect.”
The video (above) was directed by Dan Huiting. “We fell down an Andy Warhol hole (a Warhole if you will) recently and particularly loved his series of screen tests and moving portraits,” described the band. “They’re just static shots of a subject staring at the camera. It’s amazing how compelling that is. Just looking at someone for 20 minutes or so. We also bought an old overhead projector and really wanted to incorporate it by projecting these weird shapes on Camilla’s face.”
The release neatly coincides with their upcoming 21-city North American tour beginning February 16 tour (see below). Fans closer to home can catch them in June at Forbidden Fruit Festival (Dublin) and Bushstock (London).
‘Tired As F**k’ / ‘Train Tracks’ is available now on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify; a 7” Vinyl of the tracks will be available exclusively at The Staves’ North American shows.
