Money is the new single from The Delta Bell, featuring the signature harmonies of Kate Gerrard and Beth Chesser, over electro-handclaps and a stripped back beat. The song was written by Kate on her lunch break in a tired cafe on a dull winter’s day, during the long wait for the next payday. Inspired by the times we live in, it’s about the fleeting nature of money, the 99 and the 1%, and the boredom and frustration of being skint. It’s a sweet playground sing-song for complicated times.
The video was shot on the sunny South Downs in Sussex (by Little Ideas Productions). Surrounded by burnt out cars, Kate and Beth wait anxiously for their accomplice to pick them up, as their minds flash back to the mistakes of the night before during a high-stakes game of cards. Filming was interrupted several times by a small Shetland pony with artistic aspirations who, although beautiful, didn’t make the final cut.
The Delta Bell is the project of singer, musician and songwriter Kate Gerrard. The Delta Bell’s debut album Bow Out Of the Fading Light was released in July 2015 to critical acclaim. Based in Brighton, Kate has been writing, recording and performing solo and with a band for the last five years. The single Money is a stand-alone single, with a second album due to be released later in 2017. The new album was recorded live with the full Delta Bell band – Beth (backing vocals and keys), Andrew Blake (guitar), James Bandenburg (bass) and Bob Baker (drums).
