Our introduction to Benjamin Folke Thomas was a good few years ago now when the first shouts being made about him on the London Folk Scene were impossible to ignore. Since then, that reputation has spread like wildfire for the Swedish singer and songwriter. The Washington Times declared: “Mr Folke Thomas’ world has been full of such incongruities, yet his music has remained consistently stunning”, and The Guardian stated that he “stands out like Oliver Reed at an AA meeting.” That message of being consistent greatness seems to be a common thread, one that sets high expectations although, by all accounts, his forthcoming new album is his best yet and from what we’ve heard we’re tending to agree.
We have the immense pleasure of premiering the video for his new single Copenhagen 30/6 which features some top work by Director John Peterson. The track is taken from his forthcoming new album Copenhagen which is out on March 3rd, 2017. You can’t mistake that baritone voice or his beautiful way of telling a story which the video perfectly compliments.
Like the great Townes Van Zandt, the man’s a natural, and he paints a picture that engages straight away. There are so many great lines in there “like a chain, tied around the neck, through the meltdowns you’re a rock, I’m a wreck…” Listen, then listen again.
