Two-time Grammy Award winners and Grand Ole Opry members Old Crow Medicine Show are set to release their first Best Of compilation next Friday, 10th February, which will feature 12 of the most memorable and beloved songs from the band’s three albums released via Nettwerk – O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006), Tennessee Pusher (2008) – as well as two previously unreleased tracks “Heart Up In The Sky” and “Black-Haired Québécoise” which you can hear above.
The track is a bilingual barn burner inspired by band members Ketch Secor and Critter Fuqua trip to Quebec, Canada during their teens. Secor explained to Rolling Stone: “We wrote this song together after such a trip… dreaming up a narrative of a southern truck driver hauling timber to the pulp factory, breaking down in a snowstorm and meeting a beautiful Quebecoise girl. We added a little French dialogue to the story, and hopefully nobody up there minds our lousy grammar. Like it says in the song, ‘Mix Quebecois with my southern drawl – oh well, man – c’est la vie!'”
The album will be made available on vinyl, a format on which none of these songs are currently available. The gatefold packaged 180g vinyl will include a 4-page lyric insert, plus bonus red vinyl 7″ including the two previously unreleased tracks (download card included). The digipak CD version will include a 20-page booklet.
