Our latest mix ranges from folk to the experimental, one that is chock-full of musical gems. It opens to Cocoon, the title track of Harpist/singer Emma Gatrill‘s new album which is coming out on Japanese label flau in March. There is also new tracks from:
Yorkston/Thorne/Khan‘s new album Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars (out 7 April on Domino Records)
Cunning Folk‘s Ritual Land, Uncommon Ground (out on 24 March on Dharma Records)
Luke Daniels forthcoming album Making Waves (out 3 March on Wren Records Ireland). One on which over five hundred individual pieces of open source archived or sampled audio were collected from the internet by Daniels and processed, detuned, warped and layered to create arrangements on the album.
We’ll be featuring more on these new albums soon. Amongst some of the names we’ve recently featured such as Ursina (main image) and Nadine Khouri are tracks from some more original and refreshing artists including Adam Torres, Sarah Olivier, Suzanne Schmid, Keto, Constantinople, Furnace Mountain, and Fishclaw:
There is a dark side to folk music that is hidden in back alleys and backwaters. It revels in not caring about what is fashionable and instead treads a path that follows unexplored senses. It embraces the powerful possibilities of rhythms and sounds tomerge and build, inducing trance-like and hypnotic effects in those who hear it. Facebook
and Various Guises:
The London-based expandable duo of Maya McCourt & Blanche Ellis on cello and guitar (with some acapella vocals and a little washboard thrown in for good measure). Formed late one night around a bonfire in Brockley the girls have been stomping and swaying all over town ever since. Playing original music, influenced by Blanche’s love of old New Orleans songs and Appalachian tunes and Maya’s love of English and European traditional music, the girls close-knit harmonies weave a sense of timeless folk. It’s all good. Enjoy!
