Dublin-based collective and Folk Radio UK favourites Jiggy are back with a brand new single and video along with the great news that a debut album is due to follow in early March…something we’ve been looking forward to since 2015 when we first heard them.
Featuring a fluid lineup of musicians, Jiggy came together in 2015 to create a high-energy blend of traditional Irish dance rhythms and electronica elements. As Dublin has become more multicultural in recent years the collective has grown and collaborated with musicians from India, Iran, Japan, Hungary and Africa.
‘Head Rush’ is the first single from Jiggy’s debut album that will be released in early March 2017. The track opens with Irish lilting from Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Indian konokal from Debojyoti Sanyal. The mouth music sets the pace as the bodhrán, tabla and drum kit take up the groove and Uilleann pipes and sarod trade riffs and melodies. Robbie Harris shared with us that the band road tested ‘Head Rush’ at summer festivals in Ireland and it has become a permanent feature in our live set. We’re not surprised!
