Whilst time may seem to have flown by since the release Nadia Reid’s debut album Listen To Formation, Look For The Signs (reviewed here), she’s been anything but still, having clocked up 10,000kms of travel which included her first full European tour and a New Zealand artist showcase at the UK’s Great Escape alongside the likes of Tiny Ruins and Aldous Harding.
Whilst those ‘razor-sharp observations on relationships, nature and growth’ are still very present, it’s maybe her embracing of the uncertainty that such an unsettled life brings that has led to a shift in her sonic landscape, a necessary backdrop to support those harder emotional punches she lays bare.
The press release is very revealing, one filled with honesty and hope. “This record is about being OK with who I am in the world, and who I want to be. Learning to live with the fact I’m a person who operates differently to others, “admits Nadia. “I’m richer for the fact I am a musician. Without this way of being, I couldn’t write songs.”
An ode to self-reflection and self-betterment.
Nadia is touring the UK & Europe next month prior to the release of Preservation.
