Many of you will recall the release of Mairearad Green‘s Summer Isle album which was a Featured Album of the Month on FRUK back in February. The album was inspired by the small and beautiful archipelago just south of the Coigach Peninsula of the Scottish Highlands. In his review of the album, Neil concluded that with Summer Isles, “she’s taken what seems like a whole new approach to writing, a wealth of new influences and woven a warm, finely crafted tribute. It’s as enchanting as the islands that inspired it and as full of riches as their history. Whether recording her self-written songs or setting down music inspired by other writers, Mairearad Green captures the life and spirit of the islands.” Read the full review here.
Now, in an exciting collaboration with Isle of Skye band, Niteworks, fusing Gaelic music and electronic influences, the opening track to the album ‘Island Folk’ has been given the remix treatment. Mairearad recently guested on Niteworks debut album and has performed at many leading UK festivals with the band. 50% of the download sales of this track will be donated to The Scottish Wildlife Trust and this video is made by Ullapool filmmakers Steven and Gabriel.
Island Folk (Niteworks Remix) is released today as a single.
