Earlier this year, The Breath released their début album Carry Your Kin, a Featured Album of the Month on Folk Radio UK which we reviewed here. The band comprise of Irish singer and flautist Ríoghnach Connolly, Stuart McCallum, former guitarist of The Cinematic Orchestra, pianist John Ellis and drummer Luke Flowers.
They have just unveiled their new video for ‘For You‘, a track which Neil highlighted as one of the standout tracks in his review:
The repeated refrain of For You seems to echo through lonely hills, as the song moves onto something really quite extraordinary that can either wash over you, or totally enthral. Just two words, over and over, but with a thousand voices, over percussion, guitars and keys that seem to roll around those same hills. Beautiful. Really, really beautiful.
The Breath play at The Foundling Museum this Friday 25th November where they are joined by the excellent Julie Murphy, another Folk Radio UK favourite. Julie also released a new album this year titled Every bird that flies, in her review of the album, Helen set the stage in her first paragraph:
Every now and then I’ve been fortunate enough to come across an album which, in that too-brief moment of listening, time seems to stand still. Julie Murphy’s Every bird that flies is one such album; a record of such quiet beauty it takes your breath away. Recorded over three days at Mwnci Studios in West Wales, pared down to a minimum of instruments and musicians – primarily Julie, who plays piano and sings, with contributions from Ceri Owen Jones (trombone) and Aidan Thorne (double bass) – it’s an album which centres artistic expression, creative freedom and social justice concerns.
