Following a sold out London double-header at St Pancras Old Church on 2nd November, singer-songwriters Rachel Sermanni and The Lake Poets have announced a series of shows together. Commencing on 23rd November, the full dates (including ticket info) are below.
The music of Folk-Noir balladeer Rachel Sermanni has the flesh of Folk but, if you were to cut the skin, you would find it pumped with contemporary, genre-blended blood.
Having released her debut EP in 2011 while still in her teens, Rachel Sermanni has subsequently recorded a further handful of EP’s and two studio albums, the most recent of which was 2015’s acclaimed ‘Tied To The Moon (reviewed here),’ which she wrote while ensconced in the sticks of Nova Scotia. She has featured regularly on FRUK since 2012 and has also recorded an acoustic session which you can hear here.
Born under a rainbow in Inverness in November 1991, she has matured as a writer, musician, and artist, but in everything she creates there remains a preservation of the pure and mystical, symbolic in that beam of fragmented light that shone 25 sun-spun years ago. Her current release is ‘Gently,’ an EP of dreamlike and captivating acoustic songs.
The Lake Poets is Sunderland based singer-songwriter Marty Longstaff. His self-titled debut album was released in autumn 2015 to excellent reviews (read our review here) and has spawned the singles ‘Your Face’ and ‘Edinburgh.’ Since first being aired on 6 Music, the former has quietly gone about racking up nearly 6 million plays on Spotify.
Recorded in Nashville’s famed Blackbird Studio and produced by Dave Stewart, the album sees Longstaff’s shimmering pure voice sit atop intimate, sparsely beautiful arrangements.
Autobiographical lyrical content that is rich in painting the big picture about love and mortality by way of a keen eye for the small details of life also incorporates a heavy dose of social realism, such as in ‘Vane Tempest’ and its story of how the Miners Strike affected his father. The decimation of the North East and family struggle is also writ large in ‘Shipyards.’
