After being introduced to the UK by the sublime 2006 album Casa (Loose) which featured regularly on Folk Radio UK’s radio stream, Roger Dean Young & the Tin Cup seemingly disappeared, yet they have remained sporadically active in their native Canada. A 2007 album Threshold, was issued on their own Copperspine Records, but following the still unreleased 2010 effort, Down Easy, it was another five years before Young resurfaced with the intimate solo digital release, Evening Bird Songs II.
Expected in March 2017 is Wrought Iron Will, the first full band collection to see the light of day for a full decade. Now rechristened Roger Dean Young & the Tin Sea, the band has consolidated, yet further refined their off-kilter alt. country/folk sound, as witnessed in V (Charlie), the first single from Wrought Iron Will. Filmed by Tyler Thomas and edited by ‘The Editor,’ the delightfully simple video for V (Charlie) sees Roger hiking through the verdant countryside and along the railroad tracks of Vancouver Island, accompanied by Thomas’ dog, Maggie.
The single and video will be celebrated with a special launch show on Saturday in Vancouver at the Index Gallery, 1305 Powell Street (9pm). See the poster below and check the Facebook event page here.
