After recently completing their two month UK tour to promote their new album ‘Shadows’ (reviewed here), O’Hooley & Tidow announce a small run of intimate WinterFolk concerts this December.
As an added treat they’ve shared this version of ‘River’ by Joni Mitchell
Belinda explains…”One evening last year, we were having a bit of a sing song by the fire, on the piano, and it sparked the idea of us putting together an alternative Xmas concert of winter songs and carols. We decided to try it out at our local Band Room in Marsden, and the demand for it totally exceeded our expectations. So, we added another concert and that sold out quickly too.
We realised that a lot of people were looking for something a bit different from the usual traditional concerts of religious songs. There are so many fabulous alternatives; from Joni Mitchell’s ‘River’ to The Wexford Lullaby which we learned from Jackie Oates. We also have quite a few of our own winter songs and Heidi’s heritage is brought to the fore in her German version of ‘Silent Night’ performed with accordion accompaniment.”
For one of the WinterFolk concerts in Brighton, there will be a collaboration between O’Hooley & Tidow and The Hullaballoo Choir, which they are all excited about.
Belinda adds “We loved the intimacy of our Summat’s Brewin’ Tour, where the venues we played (back rooms of pubs, micro-breweries etc) were quite small, and people could really join in. Xmas can actually feel like quite a difficult time for many people, so we hope that our little concerts bring a sense of community and spirit, where people can come together to sing and celebrate in a friendly, inclusive setting.”
