To mark the release The Gentle Good‘s (Cardiff singer-songwriter and folk musician Gareth Bonello) fourth album Ruins/Adfeilion we have a series of video exclusives to share which were recorded at The Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff.
Gareth shared the following about the latest, Pen draw’r Byd (The far side of the world):
Inspired by a common theme in Welsh folk music, this is a song about a young girl awaiting the return of her love from the high seas. In a break from tradition, she abandons her love and curses the sea and the stars. In the last verse she tells herself that should her sailor return from the dead, complete with a crown of seaweed and sand she would turn her back and let the moon drag the sea and everything in it to the far side of the world. Recorded live at The Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff, I’m joined by the wonderfully talented pairing of Callum Duggan on double bass and Jennifer Gallichan on vocals.

Joining Gareth on the album are a host of guest musicians including the likes of Dylan Fowler, Georgia Ruth Williams, Tomos Williams of Fernhill and Ceri Jones amongst a number of others.
