Our Song of the Day comes from TEYR (“3” in the Cornish language) who evolved out of the London sessions scene. The innovative trio are made up of James Gavin, Dominic Henderson and Tommie Black-Roff. Banks of the Newfoundland is from their debut album Far From The Tree (London Album Launch Wed. 28 Sept at The Old Queen’s Head. See details below) and tells the tale of the passage from these Isles to America before the age of steam in old packet and convict ships. Their arrangement expands upon a version sung by John Farr of Gwithian, west Cornwall in the 1920s.
We’ll have more from TEYR this week!
