We have a very special premiere and Tune of the Day from new duo Aidan O’Rourke (Lau) and Kit Downes (Trokya/Squarepusher). We’ve been very fortunate to be offered this first listen of a sampler recording of “At The Interval, As The Applause Dies Away“(DEMO) straight from the studio.

The duo started after Aidan decided he wanted to make a musical response to James Roberston’s daily short story collection 365 which O’Rourke began reading 1st of January this year. For each day Robertson presents a short story of exactly 365 words. Smitten by the stories Aidan went to meet James at his talk during Glasgow’s Celtic Connections.
The track we are sharing is a demo recording of one of the first musical responses Aidan has written (more of which will appear next year) and recorded with the Mercury Music Prize nominated, BBC Jazz Award Winner harmonium and keyboard player Kit Downes. Aidan met Kit in June 2016 and they quickly hit it off forming this duo. At the time of writing, Aidan is 200 tunes into his own 365 tune project, having started writing music in March 2016. The duo plan to record all the tunes over the coming year and will be playing live soon.Expect more news from the duo as it comes into us at FRUK.
