Hands Up for Trad have announced their inductees for the 2016 Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, honouring the hard work and dedication of musicians and industry people to Scottish traditional music scene throughout their lives.
23 musicians and influential trad stars will be recognised across nine categories at the popular Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame Dinner, on the 11th November, in the Marryat Hall, Dundee.
Among the well-known list of recipients is one of the most celebrated performers in British folk music, Barbara Dickson OBE, who will be honoured for her Services to Performance. She’s joined in the same category by award-winning piper, Murray Henderson and Battlefield Band, alongside departed performers, including folk music icon Michael Marra, fiddler Jimmy McHugh, Arthur Argo and one of Celtic music’s most gifted singers, Andy M Stewart.

Writer, broadcaster, political activist and programme-maker, Billy Kay, is being recognised for his Services to Scots, which is a new award for this year, after spending his life demonstrating expressive elegance and power of the Scots tongue.
BBC Radio Scotland’s Iain Anderson, is being awarded for his Services to Broadcasting after more than four decades on the airwaves.
The Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame is sponsored by Feisean nan Gaidheal, an organisation which supports the development of Gaelic arts. It was started in 2005 to celebrate musicians and industry people who have made traditional music what it is today. A full list of inductees is below.
As well as celebrating established talent, Hands Up for Trad work hard to provide a platform for new and emerging performers with the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2016, hailed the most prestigious awards ceremony in the traditional music calendar. They return to Caird Hall, Dundee, for a second year on Saturday 5th December. With performances from Scott Wood Band, Dallahan and many more, it’s set to be a night to remember.
