Saturday 3rd September sees the return of the London Folk Festival to Camden’s Cecil Sharp House for a day-long celebration of folk music. It promises to be a great day out and a fantastic showcase for the current resurgence of top quality folk and roots music that is happening in London right now.
The London Folk Festival is an annual event, now in its third year, jointly organised by Folk on Monday (a long-running weekly folk night in Camden), London-based folk music promoter UrbanKelt and London Folk Music (an independent, not-for-profit social media enterprise promoting live folk music in London). It will feature the best of the national and local folk scene alongside workshops, sing arounds, and Morris dancers.
The festival line-up includes some of the very best and most exciting established and new talents in the current British folk revival. Big-hitting trad-folk trio Faustus (featuring Benji Kirkpatrick, Paul Sartin and Saul Rose) will be headlining, along with Londoners Stick In The Wheel, and two-time winners at the BBC Radio2 Folk Awards Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar. The award-winning Somerset folk songwriter and singer Ange Hardy will be performing in her new duo with Lukas Drinkwater, as will London-based favourites of Cerys Matthews, Long Lankin, among others.
As well as workshops including spoons-playing and clog-dancing there will also be entertainment by the Tower Ravens, London’s all-female rapper dance team, and The Wolfshead and Vixen Morris Side.
The London Folk Festival is on Saturday 3rd September at Cecil Sharp House. Doors open at 11:00am and the event starts at 11:30. The venue is family-friendly and accessible and has an on-site café and real ale bar.
