The Smugglers Trail is an Arts Council England supported travelling eco-festival focusing on sustainability and folk and roots music. The idea grew out of the Smugglers Festival in Deal, Kent which, for the past 6 years, have been creating a magical woodland festival packed full of Roots, Folk and World Music, Workshops, Talks and Games, brought together by our DIY ethos.
They aim to showcase radical ideas around local food and green energy in a fun and family-friendly environment, bringing together activists, campaigners, artists and musicians at 4 locations across the country.
They launched their first event in June in Deal and still have Peterborough (16th July) and Brighton (23-24 July) to run. The events all take place on common or community owned land, making this an event for everyone.
Festivals are a lot of fun, but they can also inspire and connect us. We believe that the two go hand in hand. As well as showcasing some of the UK’s best folk and roots bands, we want to offer a platform for new ideas which can help foster communities connected to the stories of their food, energy and land. Alongside some great live music they also run workshops: from bushcraft to blacksmithing, and talks: including sustainable energy and food production.
