As part of our ongoing collaboration with one of London’s finest folk, roots and acoustic live music nights Before the Gold Rush, we have another session to share with you.
Various Guises are the London-based expandable duo of Maya McCourt & Blanche Ellis on cello and guitar (with some a cappella vocals and a little washboard thrown in for good measure). Formed late one night around a bonfire in Brockley the girls have been stomping and swaying all over town ever since. Playing original music, influenced by Blanche’s love of old New Orleans songs and Appalachian tunes and Maya’s love of English and European traditional music, the girls close-knit harmonies weave a sense of timeless folk.
The session was recorded and filmed live at The Haberdashery, Crouch End.
