Heron Oblivion are a fairly new San Francisco-based combo who, back in March, released their self-titled debut album on Sub Pop. Meg Baird, who by now should be well known enough to most of you to not have to drop that well known Philadelphia acid-folk band link, provides vocals and drums. She’s joined by guitarist Charlie Saufly of Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound and Ethan Miller and Noel Von Harmonson of the late Comets of Fire.
For those unfamiliar with the album there is a clue in the band name….throughout there is a blend of psych-pastoral moments behind which is high tide rolling in fast. Below is a superb session the band did for the most excellent ground-breaking WFMU which also happens to be one of my favourites stations – currently the longest running freeform radio station in the United States. It was recorded at Monty Hall, from Brian Turner’s program.
