New Video: Skipper’s Alley - Ryan’s Rant

I’ve been looking forward to new tunes from Skipper’s Alley for a while and they delivered in style today with a new video for Ryan’s Rant, a traditional reel. It was recorded in The Parlour Bar of Whelan’s in Dublin. The whole vintage look of the room seemed to suit the session really well, the tight and powerful performance delivers a great punch just over half-way through which would challenge any audience to keep their feet still. Just what the doctor ordered!

Martin Simpson – Some Kind of Jubilee

Martin Simpson’s “Some Kind of Jubilee” is a seventeen-song double album, made in the US and the UK to mark half a century since his debut. Veterans and newcomers play alongside him. The music is rich without ever being overplayed, and the vocals are warm and engaging. The album is a real achievement and a career highlight after fifty years. Take a bow.

Good Habits – Better for Now

Good Habits’ “Better for Now” pushes outwards, from festival-ready trance-folk to intimate acoustic balladry. An overriding spirit of positivity runs through songs about body image and burnout, all carried on buoyant melodies. The result is a blend of virtuosity and sheer vitality, making them one of the most exciting bands on the British folk scene right now, and one of the most technically accomplished.
