The Mekons, those sonic adventurers that formed in Leeds way back in 1977, have offered up a musical response to Brexit with Fear & Beer:a hymn for a post factual democracy sung joyously by the disenchanted and forgotten as they tumble teary eyed into the arms of their oppressors. Watch it above.
The video also offers a sneak peak at MEKONS EXISTENTIALISM, a new album/book/video to be released September 2016 to coincide with the band’s Canadian/Californian autumn dash.
The band were the subject of a documentary titled ‘Revenge of the Mekons‘ which was chosen as one of the Top 10 films of 2014 by Village Voice and called “Superior” by The Guardian. It is being screened at The Cluny in Newcastle Upon Tyne on July 5, 2016; 7:30 pm. There will be a Post-screening Q&A w/ founding Mekon Ros Allen. Watch the trailer below:
